KEY BETTING STATS

  • Australia have won each of their last five official ODI fixtures against New Zealand – To Win the Match
  • Adam Zampa has taken 4+ wickets in each of Australia’s last three 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup matches – Bowler Milestones
  • Rachin Ravindra has scored over 26.5 runs in four of New Zealand’s five 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup matches played so far – Batter Match Runs

BETTING ANALYSIS For AUSTRALIA

Momentum is at an all-time high within the Australian camp following their historic 309-run triumph over Netherlands, a record ICC Cricket World Cup victory. It’s hard to see them adjusting their team following such a win, although opener Travis Head is getting closer to full fitness, which could see Marnus Labuschagne at risk of dropping out with Mitchell Marsh moving down the order to accommodate his bowling.

We tipped Adam Zampa to take 3+ wickets in Australia’s last game against the Netherlands, and the leg-spin bowler did not disappoint, recording figures of 4/8 from just three overs. Zampa has now picked up a four-wicket haul in three consecutive games, and such form simply cannot be ignored. Back Zampa to finish as Australia’s top bowler (3.75) for a fourth match running and also consider a stake on the top wicket-taker in the competition (at the time of writing) to gain another 3+ wickets here (3.40).

Big-hitting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell had been quiet with the bat across the World Cup heading into Australia’s clash with Netherlands, accruing scores of 15, 3, 31 (not out) and 0, but he exploded back into form on Wednesday, blasting 106 from just 44 balls. The fastest hundred in ICC Cricket World Cup history included eight sixes and demonstrated Maxwell’s notorious power. With confidence high following that knock, consider backing Maxwell to score the most sixes for Australia against New Zealand (3.40).

It would also be remiss not to mention David Warner, who struck his second consecutive three-figure score last time out, hitting 104. With a whopping 267 runs across Warner’s last two innings, multiple markets appeal in which to back the experienced opener, such as ‘Team – Top Batter’ (4.00) and Batter Milestones, with value available on Warner to gain a third consecutive score of 100+ runs (5.00).

BETTING ANALYSIS For NEW ZEALAND

Tom Latham is expected to captain New Zealand once again in Kane Williamson’s absence, with the Black Caps coming off the back of having suffered their first defeat of the group stage, losing by four wickets to India in Dharamsala. New Zealand were bowled out for 273 batting first, with seven of their wickets falling to fast bowlers. They’ll face another stern pace examination here on the same ground against Australia.

On such a surface, New Zealand’s pacers will need to take early wickets vs an in-form Australian top order. With that in mind, Trent Boult could be a key player. His left-arm quick bowling should be very difficult to bat against with the new white ball, and backing him to pick up over 1.5 wickets (1.83) for the third time in four games represents a smart play.

Another bowler who warrants investment from bettors is Lockie Ferguson, who boasts eight wickets across New Zealand’s last three group matches. Not only should the right-arm pacer be backed via the ‘Team – Top Bowler’ market (4.33), but backing Ferguson via the ‘Bowler Milestones’ market to take 2+ wickets (2.10) for a third consecutive match looks very good value.

One of the breakout stars of this World Cup has been Black Caps batter Rachin Ravindra, the 23-year-old having racked up 290 runs across five innings so far, more than any other New Zealand player. Ravindra has passed the half-century mark on three occasions, and backing him to score a fifty in this match (3.00) may prove a lucrative move for bettors.

CRICKET 8’S EXPERT PREDICTION

The form is in Australia’s favor; the five-time ICC Cricket World Cup champions have not only won their last three group matches in this competition, but they also boast an unbroken five-match winning streak in 50-over cricket against New Zealand spanning back to the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, when the Aussies were victorious over the Black Caps by 86 runs at Lord’s in the group stage.

But when taking into account how well New Zealand has played over the course of this tournament, backing Australia to win doesn’t offer the best value. Instead, the shrewd play is to invest in David Warner, who is averaging 66.40 across the tournament and coming off the back of successive centuries. He’ll be confident of at least reaching his half-century here.
