KEY BETTING STATS
- South Africa have beaten Australia in all three official ODIs played between the two nations in India – To Win the Match
- South Africa have hit 50 sixes across their last four official ODIs – Most Match Sixes
- Josh Hazlewood has taken over 1.5 wickets in two of Australia’s last three official ODIs – Bowler Total Match Wickets
BETTING ANALYSIS/TIPS For AUSTRALIA
Australia have lost six of their last seven official ODI fixtures, including their opening 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup game, which saw them beaten by six wickets at the hands of India in Chennai. They are expected to remain without Travis Head through injury, but despite being dismissed for 0 against India, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh should continue to partner David Warner at the top of the order.
Fast bowling remains one of Australia’s strongest suits, with Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood all significant threats with the ball. Hazlewood has managed six wickets across his last three appearances and took 3/38 last time out, comfortably better figures than those of his teammates. Back right-arm quick Hazlewood to pick up 2+ wickets (1.90) via the ‘Bowler Milestones’ market.
No Australian batter managed to score a half-century on Sunday, Steve Smith top-scoring with 46 although David Warner did manage 41. With scores of 41, 56, 53 and 52 in his last four ODI innings (all in India), the experienced opener is well worth backing to not only finish as Australia highest run-scorer against South Africa (4.00), but also to record his fourth score of 50+ runs (2.37) in Australia’s last five official ODI fixtures.
BETTING ANALYSIS/TIPS For SOUTH AFRICA
South Africa come into this contest on the back of a four-game ODI winning streak, three of those victories coming against Australia. They most recently racked up the highest score in ICC Cricket World Cup history, accumulating 428/5 vs Sri Lanka, an innings which saw three South Africa batters score hundreds. With that in mind, back a South African player to score a hundred in this match (3.00).
Aiden Markram reached his hundred in just 49 balls against Sri Lanka and has now accrued scores of 106, 93, 8 and 102 across his last four ODI innings, 309 runs in total. He’s in excellent form with the bat and should be backed not only to score 50+ runs here (2.62), but also to hit over 0.5 ‘Match Sixes’ (2.37), having done so in three of those recent four innings.
Left-arm pace bowler Marco Jansen has taken seven wickets in South Africa’s last two ODI fixtures, including a five-wicket haul against Australia last month in Johannesburg, dismissing their entire top five. Jansen’s height should see him generate extra bounce and carry on a fresh Lucknow surface, increasing his wicket-taking threat with the new ball. Back Jansen to finish this encounter as South Africa’s top bowler (5.00), especially at such high value odds.
CRICKET 8’S EXPERT PREDICTION
A newly laid Lucknow pitch should see plenty of runs scored between these two nations, especially when considering the batters on show. This is likely to work in South Africa’s favour, as their playstyle is very much based on being aggressive and looking to score boundaries from ball one. They also boast the power to accelerate further down the order through the likes of David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen.
The Proteas are the form side heading into this match with four straight wins under their belts and numerous different batters having proven their ability to stand up when counted. Australia struggled with the heat in Chennai against India and on what is forecast to be another hot day in Lucknow, could once again find this a problem. When also factoring in their recent poor run of results in 50-over cricket, backing South Africa to triumph here has to be favoured.

SOUTH AFRICA TO WIN (2.20)
