BETTING ANALYSIS For ENGLAND
England will not retain their ICC Cricket World Cup title after a 33-run loss against Australia made it mathematically impossible for them to finish inside the top four come the end of the group stage. It was also their fifth defeat in a row at this tournament. Whether England opts to give the likes of Harry Brook, Gus Atkinson, and Sam Curran opportunities in this match remains to be seen, although motivation is still high for England with qualification for the ICC Champions Trophy in the balance.
The batting line-up of England has under-performed across the group stage, but one player who can hold his head high is opener Dawid Malan. The 36-year-old has accrued scores of 50 most recently against Australia and a top score of 140 vs Afghanistan. No England player has gained more runs this tournament than Malan’s 286 and he is well worth backing to accumulate over 35.5 runs (1.83) vs Netherlands. But investors may be looking for bets that offer more lucrative returns and with that in mind, consider backing Malan not only to score 50+ runs (2.25) here but to also finish as England’s top batter (4.00).
It is worth mentioning that England’s bowling has improved over the past couple of matches, with Chris Woakes a notable performer having taken 4/54 most recently against Australia. Woakes has picked up six wickets across his past two appearances, so backing him to gain over 1.5 wickets (1.83) looks a smart move. David Willey’s left-arm bowling is also likely to prove a threat to Netherlands’ batters and it’s worth exploring placing the same bet on him (1.83).
BETTING ANALYSIS For NETHERLANDS
It was another sub-par score from the Netherlands with the bat last time out against Afghanistan as they were bowled out for a fourth match running, this time for just 179 when batting first. After they ended up losing by seven wickets, the Netherlands currently sit in ninth place in the group with only England below them. It will be crucial that if they end up losing this next match, they don’t lose it by a big enough margin to drop below Jos Buttler’s side on net-run-rate.
Although Max O’Dowd managed to hit 42 vs Afghanistan, it was only the first time that he had managed a score of 20 runs or more across the entire group stage, seven innings in total. He is likely to struggle against this England bowling attack, so back him to score under 23.5 runs (1.83) via the ‘Batter Match Runs’ market. Captain Scott Edwards warrants investment via the same market when considering that he has accrued under 23.5 runs (1.83) in three of his last four innings.
From a bowling perspective, a number of their players will have experience bowling against England players through county cricket, Roelof van der Merwe being one of those. The veteran spin-bowler could have an important part to play for the Netherlands in regards to taking wickets, especially when considering England’s struggles against spin across this World Cup. Back van der Merwe to pick up 2+ wickets (3.00) at good value via the ‘Bowler Milestones’ market.
CRICKET 8’S EXPERT PREDICTION
Currently, at rock bottom of the World Cup group, England has suffered several terrible defeats throughout this competition so far, but losing to the Netherlands is unthinkable from their perspective, especially as it would probably end their chances of qualifying for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, an incredible failure when considering the quality of players at their disposal, not to mention resources. In 50-over-cricket, England also boasts a 100% record against Netherlands having won all six prior encounters.
While we’ve mentioned the under-performance of the England batters, the Netherlands’ line-up has fared badly themselves across the tournament, having been bowled out for scores of less than 200 in two of their last three games. Regardless of whether England are chasing or setting a target, they will be desperate to regain some dignity here and a shrewd play would be backing them to beat Netherlands by a higher margin than 6.5 wickets or 65.5 runs.
