BETTING ANALYSIS For SOUTH AFRICA
Skipper Temba Bavuma missed South Africa’s victory over England on Saturday through illness with Reeza Hendricks taking his place opening the batting, while Aiden Markram captained the side in Bavuma’s absence. Despite Hendricks scoring an impressive 85, Bavuma is expected to come straight back in should he be fit to play and with a stacked batting order, it’s hard to see where Hendricks would fit in elsewhere.
The most impressive aspect about South Africa is that all of their top six can put a huge individual score on the board at any given time. Against England, it was Henrich Klaasen’s turn, the middle-order hitter blasting 109 from just 67 balls in the searing heat of Mumbai and scoring four 6s in the process. When taking into account his freakish ability to clear the ropes, back Klaasen to score the most match 6s here (6.00).
After racking up consecutive centuries (100 & 109) in his opening two group stage innings, opener Quinton de Kock has since been dismissed for scores of 20 and 4 respectively. The Proteas’ wicket-keeper-batter is too good a player to be kept quiet for much longer and is due to another big score. Therefore, De Kock is worth backing to accrue over 33.5 match runs (1.83), but bettors looking for a more profitable return should consider stakes on him to score 50+ runs (2.50) or even 100+ runs (5.50) via the Batter Milestones market.
Gerald Coetzee is quietly having an impressive World Cup for South Africa with the ball and boasts seven wickets across his three appearances so far, including a pair of three-wicket-hauls. With that in mind, the right-arm pacer offers good value if backed to take 3+ wickets (3.40) again in this one against a Bangladesh batting unit who have lost 27 of a possible 30 wickets across their last three games.
BETTING ANALYSIS For BANGLADESH
It’s been an uphill struggle for Bangladesh ever since that victory over Afghanistan in their opening group match, the Tigers having since lost their next three games against England, New Zealand, and India respectively. They conceded 364 runs bowling first vs England and took just three wickets across their following two matches, comprehensively failing to defend scores of 245/9 and 256/8. Another loss here in Mumbai, would all but eliminate them from the competition.
Experience must come to the fore for Bangladesh against South Africa, especially on what will likely be a good pitch for batting. Opener Litton Das has passed the half-century mark on two occasions so far, accumulating scores of 13, 76, 0, and most recently 66 vs India. Back the 29-year-old to score over 25.5 match runs (1.83) and also consider a smaller stake on Das to score a third fifty in this World Cup (3.25).
After having started the tournament well, bowler Shoriful Islam has since struggled for the Tigers, failing to pick up a wicket in each of his last two appearances. Bettors can take advantage of the left-arm pacer’s recent lack of potency by backing Shoriful to take under 1.5 match wickets (1.44) against another strong batting line-up.
Normally, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan would be a player worthy of investment, but the Bangladesh skipper missed his side’s defeat at the hands of India due to a quad injury sustained vs New Zealand. Even if Shakib was to be passed fit to play here, he may not be at 100% which could have an adverse effect on his performance, so it looks a sensible move for bettors to turn their attention elsewhere on this occasion.
CRICKET 8’S EXPERT PREDICTION
With the weather forecast in Mumbai similar to that of this past Saturday when South Africa crushed England by 229 runs at the Wankhede Stadium, the toss could prove crucial here with both teams no doubt desperate to bat first on what should be an excellent surface. Whichever side bowls first has a grueling task ahead in the searing heat, which will sap the energy of both the bowlers and fielders alike. South Africa though, showed vs England that their fitness levels can stand up to such conditions whether they are batting or bowling first.
Expect another lightning-quick outfield and the batters being afforded full value for their shots here, which bodes well for a potential high-scoring game. The Proteas showed their class on this ground last time out, piling up 399 runs, and already boast five individual hundreds in just four World Cup group matches so far through Quinton de Kock (two), Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, and Heinrich Klaasen. Expect another South African century this time around against Bangladesh, who have already seen England’s Dawid Malan and India’s Virat Kohli reach three figures against them across this tournament.
TIP
A SOUTH AFRICAN PLAYER TO SCORE A HUNDRED IN THE MATCH (2.50).
